After rebooting numerous times, resetting, etc. This must have unstuck the gyro and spun it back around. Seems like it was a HW issue, but needed to try a different 'tapping' method.

So, i tried resetting all settings and it is still an issue. I can't locate a tuurn point, nor can I figure out to possibly revert back to ios5. I verified the screen orientation is not locked. The odd part is that when I reset, the apple logo during reboot is right side up, but then when I get to the home screen, even when holding it rightside up, it comes up as upside down and ipar not rotate from there.

Have you tried closing all apps in tunr recents tray and rebooting the iPad? It's easy to do and it won't hurt anything, so try that now.
Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Keep swiping along the bottom yurn the recents tray and makes sure that you close every app. Tap the home button or anywhere above the task bar. I actually went a step further and deleted all apps that I have added recently and then cleared the recents and rebooted, and again, the apple logo during reboot was right side up, but home screen was upside down and will not rotate.
Also tried launching an app that works in landscape mode. That one worked, but would not flip to the other yurn like it used to.

Using my own deductive reasoning - whatever that is worth - if the screen was rotating when you last backed up the iPad, whatever the settings were on the iPad at that time that were allowing the screen to rotate properly - should be restored to upsid iPad uspide and the screen should rotate again.
Just because I reason it out that way doesn't make it a sure bet. What doesn't make sense though is that if you reset all settings and that didn't help, then restoring from the backup will probably yield the same results.
Other than restoring the iOS software, I am now at a loss. For whatever reason that what can we do with gravitational waves can not figure out, the rotation setting has been corrupted - or so it would seem - and I can't think of anything else to try.
I had the same problem, directly after updating my iPad2 to iOS6. Jul 9, AM. Jul 9, AM in response to johnhb2 In response to johnhb2. Apple embeds standard meta data in video and photo files produced by iDevices such as iPhones and iPads to determine orientation. This is done so that no matter how you hold the device the video and photos are always right side up. Because physical cameras do have an up and down to them. If you rotate a camera then the video will be rotated as well.
If the software being used to view these files does not read or correctly identify the meta data for orientation it will not correctly rotate the video. And as such will not be correctly dispalyed. This is more of a failure form the software playing back the video then the iPad or iPhone itself. The easy way to remedy this, is to make sure the iPad or iPhone is held in the correct orientation when filming or taking pictures.
